Examples of Rakshas

One Buddhist Sutra that mentions Raksha is the Lotus Sutra , Chapter 26 Chapter on Dharani. It mentions "daughters of Raksha". Rakshas (or sometimes referred to as "Raksasa" or "Rakshasa", are another type of demon, different from Yaksha. In different cultures, you have different Rakshas. In South East Asia, it is said to be Giant creatures with enormous body and magical powers. They are said to be man-eating and animal eating. In Greek culture, Gigantes and Titan are examples of Raksha. In Jack and the Beanstalk, the Giant is also an example of Raksha (refer picture, coutesy of http://id.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raksasa). Bigfoot or Yeti could be a Raksha too. In the fantasy world of Marvel comics, when you think of Raksha, think of the Incredible Hulk.
